The last week has been momentous for many reasons, but at Vex we’re celebrating for one special reason in particular. Our good friend, designer Sergio Hudson, was responsible for not one, but two, notable looks for the historic inauguration celebrations.
First, Sergio dressed Vice President Kamala Harris for the evening celebration. The first female VP was dressed in an inky black sequin cocktail dress with matching floor length tuxedo overcoat, which grabbed national attention since it was worn during the VP’s appearance on the Celebrating America TV event.

But let’s not forget the second stunner Sergio created, for former First Lady Michelle Obama. For the daytime event, Mrs. Obama turned heads wearing a head-to-toe purple ensemble, created by Sergio. The design - a turtleneck and pant combo with matching overcoat and gold belt - generated a lot of buzz, especially for the powerful color, which signals unity (it’s red and blue combined).

Sergio’s designs were not only beautiful, but they were powerful messages during a historic moment. As he told Harper’s Bazaar about Kamala’s evening dress, “she shines so we can all shine.”
We’re so glad to call Sergio a friend. Vex has a long history with Sergio, dating back to 2014 when he and Vex founder, Laura, both competed on the Bravo reality show Styled to Rock. Since then, we’ve collaborated with Sergio several times. Here’s a peek at some of our favorite designs from those collaborations.
If you’re unfamiliar with Sergio, please check out his collection. We’re sending Sergio our congratulations and are so excited to see what he does next. Hopefully, there will be another collaboration in our future!
