I was really excited about this challenge. Its the first challenge we got to design for an actual celebrity! The challenge was to design an outfit for Kylie in the year 3000. My first thought was Queen Amidala and of course I wanted to use LATEX! What fabric is more futuristic then latex?
When I went to Michael Levine fabric I did not have a sketch. I was just roaming looking for anything that stood out to me. I found this tribal beaded notion that I fell in love with! I started working my design around that piece.
When I went to pitch to Jeremy Scott and the mentors I was feeling very calm. I deal with clients everyday so talking in front of people is natural for me. But I left a little disappointed. I was expecting more interaction with the mentors, or some sort of feedback. They had blank faces and gave little feedback. When the mentors can back into the work space the only suggestion they had for me was to ditch the train. I was not in love with the train so it was an easy thing for me to discard.
Overall I was disappointed that Kylie chose the "little black dress" But in the end I think she was worried that it would be uncomfortable for a long length of time. She commented that it would definitely be something she would wear in a video. Well Kylie, I'm happy to dress you for a video any time!
