When Kim Kardashian needed a Mystique costume worthy of the Marvel universe, she came to Vex Clothing. The result was the single most intricate, labor-intensive, and expensive latex garment our studio has ever produced — a full head-to-toe transformation in semi-transparent blue latex, covered in thousands of individually handcrafted scales.
This was not a costume. It was couture-level wearable art, handmade in our California studio over hundreds of hours. It remains the gold standard for what latex craftsmanship can achieve when there are no limits on time, artistry, or ambition.

The Artistry
Every individual scale on this costume was hand-poured in liquid latex, then meticulously shaped, cured, and painted with a color-shifting shimmer pigment to replicate the hypnotic, otherworldly glow of Mystique's skin. Each finished scale was then individually applied by hand to the custom-fitted catsuit.
The process is painstaking. There are no shortcuts, no molds that produce the full suit at once, no machine application. Every single scale is a handmade component that must be positioned, adhered, and blended into the suit one at a time. The shimmer-painted finish adds another full layer of labor — each scale hand-painted individually to achieve the dimensional, light-catching effect that makes this piece come alive on camera.

The reality is that the sheer volume of hand labor — thousands of individually poured, applied, and painted scales — makes this one of the most time-intensive and costly pieces a latex studio can undertake.
