A baroque crown of sculpted faces and flame finials, built entirely from latex by hand — a custom commission, made in collaboration with Art with Latex for a private client.
This custom crown was built by hand in collaboration with Art with Latex, a commission for a private client. It is made entirely of latex — no metal, no resin — sculpted into a band of serene faces crowned with flame-shaped finials and dense baroque scrollwork, then finished in deep gloss black.
A piece like this doesn’t start as a casting. It starts as a drawing, and is built up line by line.
Every scroll, every face, every flame — drawn first, then built up in latex by hand, one line at a time.
The full crown is drawn out flat as a pattern. Latex is then piped directly over the drawing, tracing each scroll and flame line by line and building the ornament up in layers. The faces are sculpted separately, then set into the band and the finials. Only once every element is built and joined does the flat piece become a crown.

The design is mapped full-scale on the work surface, and the build begins right on top of it — latex laid over the drawn lines so the finished ornament matches the pattern exactly.
Each face is sculpted by hand and placed into the design — serene, uniform, and unmistakably the centerpiece of the crown. Up close, the layered latex reads like cast metal.
