Getting Dressed

How to Get Into
Latex Like a Pro.

The dressing rituals, tools, and techniques that make latex feel like a second skin — not a struggle.

The first time you put on latex, it feels foreign. Ten minutes and a bottle of dressing aid later, it feels inevitable.

Latex sticks to skin — that's what makes it grip, sculpt, and move with you. It's also what makes dressing feel clumsy if you don't know the technique. This guide is the dressing protocol: what to prep, what to use, what to avoid, and how to actually slide into a piece without damaging it.

Step 1. Know Your Size

Fit is the first line of defense. Too tight means stress on seams, risk of splitting, and an uncomfortable wear. Too loose means gapping and loss of the figure-hugging effect that makes latex latex. Send recent measurements when ordering — especially if you're between sizes or unsure. For pieces that don't come in your size, ask about custom — we can often build it specifically for your body.

Step 2. Prep the Body

DO

  • Start with clean, dry skin
  • Trim long nails before dressing
  • Wear cotton gloves for delicate pieces
  • Remove all jewelry

DON'T

  • Apply lotion, oils, or creams beforehand
  • Dress straight out of the shower (damp skin = drag)
  • Wear bronze, copper, or other metals (they discolor latex)
  • Rush the process
"Latex rewards patience. Rushing is what damages it."

Step 3. Dressing Aid: Talc or Silicone

Latex needs a friction barrier to slide onto skin. You have two options.

A

Talcum Powder

Sprinkle inside the garment or on your body. Distributes a fine barrier between skin and latex. Leaves some residue — apply in a space where that's okay.

B

Silicone-Based Dressing Aid

Apply a small amount inside the garment, on the skin, or both. Smooth glide, no powder residue. Must be silicone-based — water-based lubricants degrade latex over time.

Step 4. The Rolling Method

This is the technique that separates professional wear from a wrestling match.

1

Roll the Garment Inside Out at the Seams

Before stepping in, roll the piece down to its seams, inside-out. This creates a starting point that's easier to work with than a fully extended garment.

2

Step In and Unroll Slowly

Unroll up the body, smoothing as you go. Don't yank from the outside. If anything needs repositioning, slide a hand between skin and latex to guide it into place — never pull or stretch from the exterior.

3

Smooth Out Wrinkles & Bubbles

Once the piece is fully on, use flat palms to smooth any trapped air or wrinkles. If something isn't sitting right, don't adjust by pulling — remove the piece and start over. Starting fresh is the safer move every time.

Step 5. Shine Before You Leave

Latex ships with a matte finish. That signature high-gloss look comes from polishing after dressing.

Apply a latex polish or spray shine to the exterior, then buff with a non-absorbing cloth (the ViviWipe is built for this) or your hands. Wash your hands after shining and before you head out — polish on your fingertips will transfer to everything you touch.

Step 6. Taking It Off

Removal is easier than dressing — but still requires care. Slide a hand between skin and latex, then gently pull the piece away from your body. Don't yank or pinch. Roll the garment inside-out as you peel, which protects seams from stretching.

Never

Pull from a single point. Pinch the material. Yank. Sleep in it. Put it in the dryer (or washer).

After Wear

Wash the piece right away — lukewarm water and a gentle, dye-free latex wash. Hang on a non-metal hanger to dry fully. Store in a protective bag out of sunlight. Proper cleaning and storage are what extend a piece's lifespan from a few wears into years.

A Note on Adhesives

We sometimes get asked about Bikini Bite, Hold Up, or similar body adhesives to keep latex in place. Our take: properly fitted latex shouldn't need adhesive to stay put. If a piece is sliding, the fit is off — that's what custom or made-to-measure solves. Adhesives add residue and cleanup complexity without fixing the underlying issue.

The Bottom Line

Latex has a learning curve, but the curve is short. After the first few wears, the dressing ritual becomes automatic. The prep takes five minutes. The payoff lasts all night.

Double check your measurements before ordering. Use talcum powder or a silicone to get dressed into latex. Use a shine to make the latex shine better. When done clean with lukewarm water. Dry after cleaning and keep out of sunlight.

what are your thoughts on using adhesives such as Bikini Bite or Hold Up to help latex clothing stay in place?
