Behind the Scenes: Latex Build Edition – A Custom Gown from Concept to Confidence

When it comes to statement-making fashion, off-the-rack just doesn’t cut it.

A recent Vex Clothing client came to us looking for something unforgettable—a head-turning latex gown to wear to a series of upscale events and parties. They had followed us on Instagram for years and were finally ready to experience the magic of a Vex custom piece. Their vision? A look that would make people stop and stare. Bold. Elegant. One-of-a-kind.

This is the full behind-the-scenes story of how that vision came to life—from studio appointment to final fitting—in just six weeks.

Step 1: The In-Studio Consultation

Custom latex design always starts with connection. The client booked a private appointment in our studio to discuss their ideas, silhouette preferences, and color palette. We pulled swatches together and explored the beautiful spectrum of latex finishes.

They were immediately drawn to Supatex Lilac (semi-transparent) and Pearlsheen Purple—a mix that felt both daring and refined. We knew instantly that this combo would deliver drama, contrast, and fluidity.

Within 48 hours, we sketched the final design:

  • A high-neck halter latex gown

  • Dramatic sheer side godets for movement

  • Corseted back detail for structure and shape

  • Sleek purple center panels to anchor the look

Sketch approved. Materials ordered. Build time: on.

Step 2: Crafting the Gown

Once the latex arrived, the hands-on work began.

Each panel was hand-cut, glued, and assembled in our California studio. Precision is everything with latex—every seam, curve, and transition must be flawless. The semi-transparent sides added an extra level of intricacy—balancing movement with strength, opacity with allure.

This piece demanded hours of focused studio time.
No shortcuts. No outsourcing. Just handmade latex fashion, start to finish.

Step 3: The Fittings

At the five-week mark, the client returned for their first fitting.

Latex is unlike any other material—it doesn’t just drape, it sculpts. That’s why fittings are essential in every made-to-measure project. We marked micro-adjustments directly on the garment to ensure a perfect contour fit.

One week later, we held the final fitting. And this is the moment we live for: the transformation.

Their expression said it all—ecstatic, empowered, and totally owning the look. The gown didn’t just fit; it became them.

Step 4: The Reveal

We documented the entire journey—from swatches to sketches, from first try-on to final reveal.
