Crafting Magic in Latex
For Sara, the best part of working with latex is bringing concepts to life. “Latex is a great medium for creative, three-dimensional design,” she explains. One of her most memorable projects at Vex was crafting Lady Gaga’s tentacle dresses, which quickly became fan favorites. She also recalls the thrill of working on inflatable garments for Gaga’s Artpop tour—a project that pushed the boundaries of design and problem-solving.
Sara draws inspiration from many sources, from her love of nature to her passion for horror films. “I enjoy drawing and painting outside of work, and I’m always inspired by the natural world,” she shares.

Having worked with Laura for over a decade, Sara describes her as “a truly great boss and a wonderful person.”
“I’ve learned so much from Laura over the years. She’s incredibly creative and has a real talent for recognizing and supporting creativity in others,” Sara says.

Jeffrey is more than a designer—he’s Laura’s right-hand assistant and a key figure in the day-to-day operations at Vex Clothing. His ability to keep everything moving smoothly ensures that the creative process and business operations work seamlessly together.
“Jeffrey is the backbone of Vex,” Laura shares. “The day-to-day success of the company happens because of him. He’s an invaluable part of the team.”
Jeffrey’s journey into fashion began with a love for storytelling. Growing up captivated by classic cinema and the glamorous outfits worn by leading ladies, he saw how clothing could silently tell stories and convey meaning. That fascination led him to pursue a career in fashion design, eventually earning his BA and finding his place at Vex.
“During my first year of school, I needed to find an internship, and I immediately thought of Vex,” Jeffrey shares. “Their bold, innovative designs—always pushing boundaries with such a unique material—instantly drew me in. It felt like a perfect match for my creative interests.”
Five years later, Jeffrey remains at the heart of Vex Clothing, blending his passion for fashion and costume design with a knack for keeping the studio running like a well-oiled machine.
For Jeffrey, working with latex is both a challenge and a creative thrill. “My favorite part of working with latex is figuring out how to adapt traditional fabrication techniques to suit this incredible, unconventional material,” he says.
One of his most memorable projects was Kim Kardashian’s custom Mystique costume, a stunning recreation of the iconic X-Men character. “As a lifelong X-Men fan, it was surreal to bring such an iconic character to life in such a detailed and modern way,” Jeffrey recalls.
When it comes to inspiration, Jeffrey draws from classic cinema, art, and music, but he’s most energized by being around other creatives. “There’s an incredible energy and exchange of ideas that happens when you’re surrounded by artists, and it fuels my passion like nothing else.”
Jeffrey plays a vital role in keeping the team at Vex connected and efficient. Working alongside Laura has been an incredible experience for him.
“Laura has taught me so much, from mastering techniques to navigating the creative process. Her passion for her craft inspires me every day,” he says. “Beyond being an amazing boss, she’s become a true friend, which makes our collaboration seamless and rewarding.”

Vex Clothing began with a single spark of inspiration in 1996 when Laura, then a student at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, purchased her first latex dress. Her passion for craftsmanship led her to explore every material and method she could, from leatherworking classes to an internship with the renowned Baroness in NYC. Around the same time, Thierry Mugler's iconic runway show featuring latex deeply inspired her to reimagine the material—not just as fetishwear, but as high fashion.
“I wanted to create latex pieces that focused on the fashion aspect of the material,” Laura explains.
Her love of groundbreaking design and dramatic storytelling has always been fueled by the works of Alexander McQueen, John Galliano, and Thierry Mugler. Each has influenced her vision, showing her how fashion can transcend clothing and become an art form. Today, Vex Clothing embodies her vision: a collection of handcrafted, timeless garments that elevate personal style while celebrating individuality.

As a proud Virgo, Laura thrives on precision, detail, and perfection. Every aspect of Vex Clothing reflects her signature meticulousness, from selecting the perfect gauge of latex to the flawless finishes that ensure the inside of every garment is as beautiful as the outside.
“The inside of the garments are just as beautiful as the outside,” Laura says. “We pour love into every piece, from the initial design to the packaging.”

A Maker Beyond the Studio
When Laura isn’t designing for A-list celebrities or crafting heirloom-quality pieces for her clients, you’ll find her channeling her creativity in other forms. She loves interior design, floral design, and crafting, often bringing the same attention to detail and artistry into her personal projects.
An avid snowboarder for 30 years, Laura also enjoys mountain biking with her family, camping, and immersing herself in nature. Her love of punk music, dark wave, and EDM fuels her creativity, while her favorite movie, The Big Lebowski, reflects her laid-back, playful side.
Astrology plays a big role in Laura’s life, both personally and creatively. She often draws inspiration from the stars and moon phases, infusing a sense of cosmic magic into her designs and her brand’s vision.
But it’s not all glamour—Laura isn’t afraid to admit she’s a total nerd at heart. “I have the sense of humor of a 12-year-old and stupid shit makes me laugh,” she says. Her playful, unfiltered personality adds a refreshing authenticity to everything she does, reminding everyone that fashion should be fun, too.

Looking ahead, Laura remains committed to creating heirloom-quality pieces that clients will treasure for a lifetime while continuing to innovate in latex design.
“I want to keep adding classic pieces everyone wants in their wardrobe and will keep forever. But I also want to push the envelope with one-of-a-kind designs,” she says.
