Few characters in cinema history have made a single outfit as unforgettable as Persephone. Monica Bellucci's pearl dress in The Matrix Reloaded is simultaneously elegant and dangerous — a silhouette that commands attention without asking for it. For this custom project, we brought that look to life the only way Vex knows how: handcrafted, from scratch, in our California studio.
This was not a replica. It was a couture reinterpretation in latex — built to capture the same luminous, otherworldly quality of the original while adding the transformative power that only handcrafted latex can deliver.
Bespoke Material, Made for This Design

This is what separates Vex from off-the-rack costume work. We don't pull from existing inventory. For the Persephone dress, we developed a custom latex sheeting with an iridescent pearl finish engineered to shift color depending on the angle and lighting — a material that didn't exist until we made it for this project.
The Craftsmanship
Every curve of this dress was sculpted by hand to flatter the body while staying true to Persephone's original silhouette. The bespoke pearl latex sheeting was hand-cut and tailored in our studio — no patterns pulled from a catalog, no pre-made components. The iridescent finish catches and bends light the way the original costume did on screen, but in a material that hugs and moves with the body in a way fabric never could.
Latex adds something film costumers understood instinctively when they dressed Bellucci for the role: it transforms. Slipping into it changes the way you look, the way you carry yourself, the way a room responds to you.
